The Trailer for the ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie is Here

Needless to say, it’s violent.

The first trailer for the much-anticipated upcoming movie adaptation of the Mortal Kombat video games has landed, offering a closer look at plot points teased in the promotional posters so far. The film, which stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and Josh Lawson, is due for release on April 16.

The story follows Cole Young (a new character created for the movie), who is inducted into a worldwide, historic gladiatorial combat ring, in which he must fight for survival against a series of the franchise’s most recognizable characters: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden and Kano are among the confirmed appearances.

This being Mortal Kombat, the trailer alone boasts a series of super-gory, ‘Finish Him’-inspired moves: arms are ripped from sockets, kunai blades go through heads, and one unfortunate character appears to get sliced in half through a wall. The story travels between New York, rural Japan, and several dungeon-like arenas.

Check out the trailer above, and be sure to catch the full film when it releases April 16.
