According to reports, an art collector has now purchased a portfolio of artwork done by Kanye West as a teenager. Entrepreneur Vinoda Basnayake sought after the array of paintings and drawings across multiple mediums after they surfaced in a 2020 episode of PBS‘ Antiques Roadshow.
During the segment on the beloved series, it was revealed that the paintings were owned by a first cousin of Kanye West who received them after the passing of his mother Donda West back in 2007. Officially acquired as part of the estate a year after, the portfolio is quite sizeable and is expected to continue to appreciate thanks to Kanye’s place as an important cultural figure.
To get an idea of the value of Kanye’s early artwork, a small selection was valued at $23,000 USD on Antiques Roadshow. Unfortunately, due to an NDA, Basnayake cannot publicly disclose how much was paid for the portfolio.
