Thanks to its waterproof tech and stormy “Anthracite/Pure Platinum” color scheme.
The Nike (NYSE:NKE +1.83%) Air Max 90 is an easy-wearing, Tinker Hatfield-designed classic that’s one of the most beloved Air Max silhouettes of all time. However, one thing it’s not usually known for is its water repellency — until now. Nike Sportswear has given the Air Max 90 a GORE-TEX makeover, making it impervious to inclement weather without taking away any of its signature style, and now that special makeup has appeared in a decidedly rainy day-appropriate “Anthracite/Pure Platinum” colorway.
Following “Photon Dust” and “Cargo Khaki” makeups, the “Anthracite/Pure Platinum” offers up a mixture of various blue, black, grey and white tones, while also discarding the Air Max 90’s standard mesh construction in favor of a more utilitarian leather build. Cocooned under the outer layer’s leather folds is a full-foot GORE-TEX membrane that prevents water from seeping through. This special material is nodded to by special branded hits on the tongue and the Air Max 90’s signature plastic midfoot “window,” while the heel’s rubberized badge remains unchanged to finalize the look.
A release date for the Nike Air Max 90 GORE-TEX in “Anthracite/Pure Platinum” has yet to be revealed, but it should be touching down on the Nike webstore in the coming weeks.
