In preparation for the shoot of her Jacob Elordi-starring Elvis and Priscilla biopic, these are the tracks that are inspiring her.
Time and time again, filmmaker Sofia Coppola shows us that she’s a cult favourite for good reason. In addition to making some truly beautiful movies over the past couple of decades, the director remains a 90s indie it-girl with a well-established street style and a thoroughly impressive music video cameo filmography. Her latest vision of girlhood – previous projects include dreamy classics like Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Suicides, and The Bling Ring – will be Priscilla, an adaptation of the bestselling 1985 memoir Elvis and Me written by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley herself.
As the film starts production, with its cast in place already (more on that below), Sofia has revealed a playlist she has compiled for the morning, as her crew prepare to shoot. Posted on her new Instagram(!), the playlist is titled Morning on Set, and isn’t all period tracks tied to Priscilla and Elvis’ life. Instead, it reveals some of Sofia’s personal taste, with tracks by everybody from Porches to Prince, Kool & the Gang to New Order making an appearance. But no Elvis! We stan a queen who doesn’t care for a literal reference. Check out her inspiration playlist below.
The film, which is being distributed in the US by A24, will star Cailee Spaeny in the titular role, with Euphoria baddie Jacob Elordi alongside her as Elvis. So what’s this movie going to be about? Who else is in it? Will there be a multiversal crossover, culminating in a gory duel-to-the-death between Jacob Elordi’s Elvis and Austin Butler’s Elvis? Here’s everything we know about Priscilla.
What’s the plot of Priscilla?
The film will follow the life of Priscilla Presley as it was told in her New York Times bestselling memoir, and adapted into a script by director Sofia Coppola. Famously, Elvis and Priscilla met at a party in 1959 when he was 23 years old, and she was 14. They then began a courtship that became a marriage in 1967, and had a child together the year after, named Lisa Marie Presley.
“Decades after his death, millions of fans continue to worship Elvis the legend,” reads the description of Elvis and Me. “But very few knew him as Elvis the man. Here in her own words, Priscilla Presley tells the story of their love, revealing the details of their first meeting, their marriage, their affairs, their divorce, and the unbreakable bond that has remained long after his tragic death.”
Who is in the cast of the movie?
Cailee Spaeny (known for The Craft: Legacy) will play Priscilla opposite Jacob Elordi as Elvis, but no other cast announcements have been made at this time. Still, Austin Butler as an alt-universe rival Elvis remains a possibility.
When is Priscilla’s release date?
Filming will begin in Toronto this autumn, so watch this space! We’re not sure yet.
