Lionel Messi’s Record-Breaking Boots to be Sold at Auction

After helping him score his 644th Barcelona goal, the boots will raise money for charity.

In December 2020, Lionel Messi scored his 644th goal for Barcelona. That goal broke a 46-year-old record, as Messi had now scored the most goals for a single club of anyone ever, eclipsing the figure set by Brazilian legend Pelé for Santos.

To mark this achievement, Messi has donated the adidas boots he wore to broke the record to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), where they will be displayed for one month. After this exhibition, the record-breaking boots will be auctioned off for charity, raising money for the museum’s Art and Health program for children with oncological diseases and their families.

Announcing the donation, Messi said, “Reaching this historic milestone of 644 goals with the same club gives me a lot of joy, but what is really more important is being able to give something back to the kids struggling with their health. We hope the auction in April will raise a lot of awareness for this great cause.”

Lionel Messi’s boots are on display at MNAC now, and will be auctioned off for charity in April.
